1. The interview published in the "Christian Hope" newspaper № 7-8 (07-08 2005)

"Radio of Light" on air
Victor Radin - "Emmanuel" radio station director

Correspondent of "The Christian Hope" newspaper: There are no doubts that launching a Christian Radio Station is a crucial event both for the church and for our whole country. As we see how extraordinary projects like this one are realized, we clearly see God's hand in action. Specifically, it's interesting to see how God chooses people for fulfilling his plans. We agree that it's a real miracle.

V.K.Radin: I worked at the "Arsenal" plant for most of my life and in that time went from being an engineer to the chief designer. I had success, good friends, authority, etc., but then there was a time when the Lord called me to serve him. Of course, I believed in the existence of the spiritual realm but I had no personal relationship with the Lord. Once, before Easter, a powerful thought came to my mind that I should repent of my sins and become a new being. At first I didn't realize how serious this was, but then a stranger phoned me (I am still not aware who it was) and said, "You should go to Iliinskaya church and repent". I was scared. So, I went to the church, met a priest and repented. After that some wonderful things began to take place in my family. In the next 2-3 years all my relatives repented. Even my father, a devoted Communist, also accepted Christ in his heart.
After a while the Lord called me for his ministry. Many people were surprised at my decision to leave the plant, but I retired from the plant and soon joined mission "Emmanuel."

Correspondent: Having neither experience nor a theoretical background weren't you afraid to take the job?

V.K.Radin: I had graduated from the radio engineering department at Kiev Polytechnic Institute. I had defended a thesis and become an assistant professor. For 10 years I had been a lecturer at the National Taras Shevchenko University and at the same time I had been working at one of the biggest plants in the USSR. So, for a long time the Lord had been thoroughly preparing me for this stage in my life. The first thing he did was call forth a desire or a dream in my heart to launch a Christian Radio Station. The dream was growing in my heart for many years and became the main goal of my spiritual life.

Correspondent: Evidently, since you had such a thorough background and were absolutely confident in God's will for your life, you didn't have any problems, did you?

V.K.Radin: This is not quite true. The first steps were very simple. To get a frequency I had to go to the National Broadcasting Committee and submit the documents required for participation in the competition. God's Words says that faith is the substance of things hoped for. So, in order to have faith we have to do something. But the second part says faith is the evidence of things not seen. When you see that the Lord is leading you and giving you revelations and direction, you do things and work with confidence.
Let me give you an example. After getting the job at "Emmanuel" I shared the revelation about the idea of having a Christian radio station, but was refused. I was told that the organization had no money and that its main target was television. After a year a man came to my directors and asked, "Do you have a person who is willing to build a radio station? I am going to give you some money for the basic equipment." And my boss obeyed God's will and included this project in the plan of the organization."
So, to receive the frequency we had to participate in three competitions. We failed in the first two competitions, but after that about 200 churches began to pray for us. It was then that God made a way for us. In the third competition the members of the National Committee unanimously voted in favor of giving us the radio frequency. We had been fighting against the powers of darkness for three years.

Correspondent: Perhaps, the biggest difficulty in any work is employing the right people.

V.K.Radin: The main thing for the radio station is the people. We need people who are true Christians, who love the Lord, and of course, who are professional. I had been praying for about a year that the Lord would bring the needed specialists to us. And God answered my prayer. Some brothers and sisters whom I had never met before came to me and brought with them their talents, knowledge and fervent desire to serve God.

Correspondent: Praise God, now you are standing on a firm foundation, but as the Lord is Creator, he never allows us to rest on the things that we have achieved.

V.K.Radin: Now we received a few things. But the Lord says in his Word that if we are faithful in a few things he will let us rule over many things. I am not saying this about myself but about the work he entrusted to us. I believe that he will multiply it and give us something bigger. Currently we are broadcasting in an ultra short wave range, but we would like to obtain a wave of a much wider range. I have a dream in my heart that we will be able to launch a radio network that will cover all of Ukraine. I have faith that it will happen. You probably know who currently owns the air in our country, but I am confident that God's Kingdom will begin to win the air, and will be established both on the Earth and "on the air." Please pray for us.

Bringing light to the world
Galina Tolchanov - "Emmanuel" radio station program director

First of all, we want to bring light into the world, as people know little about the Lord. The second thing we want to do is to help people who already know God to become strengthened in their faith, to be able to rejoice and to mature spiritually. Our radio station is interdenominational, and our staff belongs to various church denominations. Naturally, we try to bring light to the spiritual life of all Ukrainian Christian denominations. We try to avoid issues that may provoke disputes. Jesus is the key figure of all our programs as well as the Bible, love and light. We broadcast 24 hours a day and offer all kinds of music including Christian music and other kinds of light music that have not a hint of vulgarity. We broadcast a lot of classical music, instrumental and jazz music, foreign pop music, and musical compositions of Ukrainian composers. Offering the world news six times a day we try to stress the lightest moments.

Every morning we begin our broadcasts with prayer. At 6.00 a.m. we broadcast the famous hymn "Glory to Jesus" followed by a chapter from the New Testament. Ever day we offer three segments of programs for children. Twice a day we offer live programs with guests and different interesting people. Every listener can phone our studio and request a Christian song. In the evening we offer a literary program and read the works of Ukrainian authors. Following tradition, in the night we have famous priests give messages and pray for healing and deliverance for the sick and addicts.

I could share with you much more about our current radio programs and the ones that are coming soon, as the Lord has given us many talented people willing to work for God's glory and our radio station is rapidly growing. I think it's worth it for our listeners to tune their radios to our frequency and receive the blessing of listening, or even the possibility to contributing ideas for our Light Radio programs.
